Project Description |
Senior man in north Pottsboro, very self-sufficient but not physically able to handle these repairs, needs section of bedroom flooring replaced. He’s 88, and back and breathing problems, and lost his wife about 12 years ago. Currently lives alone with no family in the area. His neighbor submitted his name for consideration. Limited income, so no funds for materials. About a 6’ x 8’ section of the floor in the bedroom, near the outside wall, has dropped about 4”. Feels spongy. Two pieces of furniture will need to be moved back, the carpet peeled back, and the flooring exposed. Will likely need to cut out this section, add blocking and shims to level, replace any damaged floor joists, install new subflooring section and top flooring piece (use screws), and lay carpet back down. House foundation is solid and sturdy (on concrete pillars with good beams and subflooring). Trap door for access to under house, but clearance is too tight to get back to this area for inspection underneath. He bought some new screen wire for his porch, but has not installed it. Thin wood strips would need to be carefully removed, the old wire removed, new screen installed, and the wood strips reinstalled. Would be best to paint the strips before installing. He did not ask for any painting to be done, but a spot in the bedroom ceiling and the guest bedroom closet door need to be painted with Kilz. Also, if a church wanted to scrape and paint the outside of the house (tan color), that’s a lower priority job that could also be done. It does need a new coat of paint. This gentleman is wonderful company, and would bless the hearts of any group that wants to adopt the project. |
